Eric_PlatzEric Platz is a drummer, diagnosis percussionist, rx and composer whose work spans jazz, purchase Americana, North African music, and contemporary improvisation. He has toured throughout North America, including performances at the Blue Note and Lincoln Center in New York City, the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, the House of Blues in New Orleans, and at festivals such as the Winnipeg Jazz and Folk Festivals, the Sasktel Jazz Festival (Saskatoon), and the Sephardic Music Festival in Brooklyn. Eric’s adventurous and cinematic recording Life After Life (Allos Documents 2016) featuring his compositions for clarinet, cello, bass, and percussion, was called “…an extraordinary debut” by critic Bill Meyers in Downbeat Magazine and was awarded 4.5/5 stars by Troy Collins in All About Jazz. Other musical projects include the Complete Rebirth of the Cool ensemble (recent recording nominated for a 2014 Western Canadian Music Award), and the New York Andalus Ensemble (traditional south Spanish and north African repertoire). Eric is an Assistant Professor at Brandon University School of Music where he teaches jazz ensembles, applied drumset, world music, and jazz styles.
